NO DRILL in NC!

We are getting together May 18 around 12:30 near Jennets Pier to show this President that NC must NOT be drilled for gas or oil offshore. Not listening

It's Jennette's .

RE: NO DRILL in NC!

There are two sides to every coin, and two opinions on every issue.
Energy exploration is safe, sound and good for national security.
I look forward to a rational, reasonable debate of the pro's and con's, not just a reflexive anti photo op.
We shall see.

Hope you’re walking to the event.

I am taking a bike and I am going to take a look at a clean Ocean without oil washing under my feet. Banana

Wish I was there on the 18th. I'll send you some good vibes!

RE: NO DRILL in NC!

I am curious how Florida got exempted from this exploratory drilling... NC should do the same as they did!

Oil and Coal are not the future. We should be looking forward. And before people call me a tree hugger, this is coming from someone who owns all gas powered vehicles (Hemi V8, Flat 6, V6, and V4) as well as a 2 stroke Fourtrax 250cc Honda 250r.

It's not hard at all to see where the future of energy will come from though.

I agree 100%. The "original plans" were to "explore" the entire east coast of the US including Fla., that has changed now and I think we know why. NC at this time is Bulls Eyes for all this "exploration" to take place before the drilling start. Ones a lease is offered it is forever, something we need to stop before it even begins. It’s a real shame that we first used this technology to create weapons that can destroy all of humanity instead of solving the energy crisis forever.

I think a lot of the fear and stigma around nuclear power would have been avoided had we built power plants instead of bombs.

RE: NO DRILL in NC!

It would be nice if we were mature enough as a society to store our waste at Yucca Mountain as designed and mandated by law. Instead all nuke plants have waste on site all over the country. Major hazard.
Its the NIMBY attitude. The same as this drilling. Yet everyone wants AC. Big V8 trucks. Fat cows to eat.
I have a gas well right under my land, I don’t love it but it’s part of having Things and comfort. Everyone wants them, but they want the other guy to deal with it. Either we change the way we live or we drill/nuke more. Solar and wind won’t cut it.
Btw I use hardly ever run ac, drive a compact car. Live off grid with solar 1/3 of the year.

RE: NO DRILL in NC!

You are correct Old Gb - the issue with nuclear is the waste. Not much has changed in the way it should be handled. If that could be solved then that type of energy would be the way to go. but, I can tell you living in the close radius of Three Mile Island has made this VERY important. When the plant shuts down in two years there will still be the contaminated reactor and lots of waste on the site. Makes me a little crazy to think about it. We must find something to curb our (and the world's) appetite for oil.

Interesting tech coming out of the electric cars but there is still issues with battery life and replacement . I'm hopeful that we can and will do many things to curb our appetite for oil. Small things can make a difference. I believe that science can tackle this problem. Any claims out there must be science based and not political rhetoric.

Then there's the 800 lb. Gorilla in the elevator. What energy source do most people use to charge the batteries in their electric cars? (Hint: in PA it's probably a coal fired plant) And what cost are we bearing to produce Lithium storage batteries? And where will we dispose of all of those batteries when they have reached their useful life?
It may be best to go back to horse drawn carriages....But the methane!

A few thoughts.
-comparing nuclear (atomic) weaponry with energy development is like comparing apples to cinder blocks. Completely different elements and technology.
- both preserved our Republic and our independence, obviously with a regrettable cost for the Japanese Imperial Regime. It is known that the bombs saved about 1million American soldiers lives over an invasion.
-over regulation and negatively politicizing nuclear power with a poor understanding and misinformation to the general public has resulted in an inability to efficiently build new nuclear plants. Same can be said of coal. Thank goodness we have developed efficient and clean shale gas extraction.

This is still up for debate, but right now, yeah Nuclear is the way to go. Just not in my back yard, like every other energy source. Whistle

RE: NO DRILL in NC!

Think it is fair to say that around 70% of oil needs is for transportation. Looking to the future, we need to continue research on alternative fuels for autos/trucks as well as increasing the production of electric/hybrid autos. Maybe then in the not to far future we wouldn't need to look at offshore drilling at all.

Half of that 70% for transportation is air travel, I'm not flying on an electric plane.....

RE: NO DRILL in NC!

Half of the oil products consumed every day is by the US government.

In PA we’re switching to gas. A major coal fired plant in Shamokin Dam just shut down, replaced by locally sourced Nat gas. The coal plant supplied 250k homes, the NG plant 1 million homes. With a 95% reduction in emissions. PA is becoming energy independent, unlike the NIMBY folks in NY who banned fracking but want our cheap gas. Wish we could charge a tax on other states who use our gas, and want it both ways. Cheap gas but no drilling. We’re better off selling it to Europe.

How about if that electric plane is powered by Cryogenic Hydrogen?
